Good Causes

One child dies every second from hunger- related causes. More people die of hunger every year than from AIDS, malaria and tubercolosis combined. Malnutrition prevents children from reaching their full development and cognitive potential. On any given day, World Food Programme (WFP) has an average 5,000 trucks, 70 aircrafts and 30 ships delivering food across the globe. The World Food Programme is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against global hunger and the world's largest humanitarian organization.

You can help by participating in the game at freerice.com, a non- profit website run by World Food Programme and make monetary donations at www.wfp.org/donate

Since its launch in October 2007, FreeRice.com has been a runaway success, attracting a growing number of users to its ingenious game that generates a donation of rice to the WFP for every correct answer submitted. At Freerice.com, sponsors will donate 10 grains of rice through the World Food Programme to help end hunger if you get a correct answer for each of question. Subjects for the questions emcompass Art, Chemistry, English, Geography Language Learning and Mathematics. It is a website where you can learn while contribute for a good cause.

Visitors to FreeRice.com peaked last year at around 500,000 a day and the site is still regularly used by around 40,000 people daily. Over the ten months since its launch, it has generated more than 40 billion grains of rice in donations to WFP – enough to feed more than 2 million people for a day.

FreeRice has two goals:
1. Provide education to everyone for free.
2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

The rice you donate makes a huge difference to the person who receives it. According to the United Nations, about 25,000 people die each day from hunger or hunger-related causes, most of them children. Though 10 grains of rice may seem like a small amount, it is important to remember that while you are playing, so are thousands of other people at the same time. It is everyone together that makes the difference. The rice is paid for by the sponsors whose names you see on the bottom of your screen when you enter a correct answer. The sponsors include Yum! Brands and Unilever.

Fill the cup!

It takes just 25 US cents to fill one of the "red cups" that the World Food Programme uses to give hungry children a regular school meal of porridge, rice or beans. US$15 would feed 10 children for a week. Support WFP's school feeding programmes, emergency relief operations and development initiatives.
Help to "Fill the cup" by making an online donation now. You can also make donations by cheques or bank transfer. This donation gives WFP the flexibility to respond with life-saving assistance when and where it is needed most. Your gift will support WFP's beneficiaries' most pressing needs, from life-saving food rations for disaster survivors to cooking essentials for refugee families struggling to survive.

Spread the word and you can help save lives.
